Following the EMR Aurora design, dgdesign was engaged to create refurbishment designs for EMR’s legacy fleets; Class 158, 170 and 360. Andy supported these projects as Senior Designer.
Andy undertook ‘Design Audits’ inspecting the current condition of the fleets and informing the refurbishment project scope.
A range of interior layouts were explored, seeking to add flexibility and functionality to the fleets, and better align these older units with the service requirements of today and tomorrow.
As with many refurbishment projects, budgets were limited and Andy recommended design decisions to deliver the EMR brand experience and translate the biggest impacts of the EMR Aurora design with specific project constraints, such as refurbished seating.
Andy produced interior visualisations and authored detailed Schedule of Finishes documents for saloons, vestibules, toilets and drivers’ cabs. These documents are necessary for the approvals and engineering change process, and for refurbishers to quote and undertake the works.
Building on the work undertaken on EMR Aurora, Andy developed suites of interior signage, supported by fitting guides and installation drawings. In total, Andy created over 350 individual pieces of signage and labelling across the EMR fleets.
